My mother, Merideth Grierson, is a San Francisco based photographer who has taught me well. I grew up in the darkroom with her and learned early on how to take photos, how to develop film, and what it takes to make a good print. I spent high school in photography classes, concentrating on black and white photography as my mom had. After graduating, I didn't go straight to college. I got a job as a nanny and naturally started roaming the streets of San Francisco, taking pictures with disposable cameras, Polaroids, and my old Minolta.
I spent a lot of time outside and in the streets, at parties, events, doing graffiti, taking the bus, walking- San Francisco was my playground growing up and since 2002 I have been taking photos of it all.
My eye is eclectic but I always feel a good photo before I take it. I later studied photography at City College in San Francisco. For me, the images I take seem to take themselves, ask to be taken. The technical aspects of what makes a good photograph are often accounted for, but listening to my intuitive instruction is what's most important to me in all the mediums I work in. The joy of following the intuitive lead with photography is how instantaneous it is, in the moment as they say.
